Can you repair a side mirror?

I've got a damaged side mirror on my car and I'm wondering if it's something that can be repaired rather than replaced. The mirror housing is cracked and the glass is loose, but it's still attached. Is this something a mechanic can fix, or would I need to buy a whole new mirror assembly? I'm hoping to save some money if possible, but I also want to make sure it's done safely and properly.
