For OEM replacement, Mopar part numbers 68241165AA (front left) and 68241166AA (front right) are commonly referenced, along with rear shock part numbers that vary by chassis cab and wheelbase. These components are tuned for commercial load capacity and can be identified by a metal label or barcode, with the part number stamped near the mounting eye. When a ProMaster 2500 exhibits a harsh ride, poor damping, or suspension-related warning lights, a scan tool can retrieve body control and ABS/ESP codes. Common DTCs associated with suspension include C0020 (ABS pump motor), C0035, C0040, C0050 (wheel speed sensor circuits), and C1000 or C2200 series configuration/communication faults. However, these codes are indirect because production ProMaster vans do not use electronic ride-height sensors; the suspension is a passive steel spring and hydraulic damper system. A failing shock absorber is diagnosed by visual inspection for oil leakage, bounce testing, uneven tire wear, and looseness in the bushings or mounting bolts. For 2026, commercial van OEMs are shifting toward nitrogen gas-charged twin-tube shocks for better fade resistance, optional frequency-selective damping, and integrated dust boots to extend service life. Some ProMaster aftermarket shocks also feature monotube high-pressure gas construction for improved durability under GVWR conditions. Always replace shocks in axle pairs and torque fasteners to factory specifications, typically 75–80 lb-ft for the upper strut nuts and 90–100 lb-ft for lower fasteners, depending on the specific build.
