Acura RDX, CSX, MDX Brake Pads/Rotors: Honda CR-V Interchange and Friction Codes

Brake pads and rotors are not universally interchangeable across Acura and Honda models. For 2007–2012, the Acura RDX (first generation) shares its platform and some front brake components with the Honda CR-V, but front rotors and calipers can differ when the RDX is equipped with larger performance brakes. The Acura CSX shares its underpinnings with the Honda Civic (FD/FA), while the Acura MDX uses a different platform with larger, heavier-duty brakes. When selecting pads for any of these vehicles, inspect the edge code (e.g., N-code, H-code) stamped on the pad backing plate; identifiers such as '2025' or '2026' can indicate specific pad shapes/friction material families. Ceramic pads are commonly specified for low dust, semi-metallic for heavy-duty stopping, and low-metallic for aggressive initial bite. For 2010 and later North American models, copper-free formulations may also be required by state regulations. Always compare rotor diameter, vented vs. solid construction, caliper piston size, and pad shape to the original part before installation.
