The Ram ProMaster uses a MacPherson strut front suspension and rear leaf springs with shock absorbers. A complete front strut assembly includes the strut, coil spring, upper bearing or mount, and bump stop. Rear shock assemblies are simpler but equally important for load stability. Common signs that replacement is needed include excessive bouncing, uneven tire wear, fluid leaking from the shock body, and knocking noises over bumps. The general replacement procedure includes safely lifting and supporting the vehicle, removing the wheel, disconnecting brake line brackets and ABS sensor, removing the upper strut mounting nuts, lowering the knuckle, and removing the lower bolts. Install the complete assembly with new fasteners and torque to specifications from the service manual. For 2025-2026 models, verify the build date and suspension option code to select the correct part. Aftermarket complete strut assemblies can reduce labor time and avoid spring compressor hazards. Always perform a wheel alignment after replacing front struts.
