The Infiniti QX56 and Nissan Armada models with automatic rear air suspension use an electric air suspension compressor to maintain rear ride height. Over time, the compressor can fail due to moisture contamination, worn piston rings, relay failure, or repeated overheating. Common symptoms include the rear of the vehicle sagging, the compressor running constantly, unusual noises from the rear, a suspension warning light on the dashboard, and failure of the vehicle to raise after sitting overnight. When replacing the compressor, first support the vehicle safely and relieve any remaining air pressure in the rear air springs. Disconnect the battery and carefully remove the wiring harness and air lines from the compressor unit. On these vehicles, the compressor is often mounted near the rear frame or suspension area, and is paired with a desiccant dryer/filter that should be replaced at the same time. Use only OEM or high-quality replacement parts, and verify the part number against the vehicle's VIN and build date. After installation, check the rear height sensors and air springs for leaks, clear any fault codes, and perform the required ride-height calibration or relearn procedure so the system can maintain proper alignment and load leveling.
