Hyundai Accent Rear Strut / Shock Absorber 55360: OEM Numbers, Torque Specs, and Replacement Notes

by flippancy 09 Aug 2026
The Hyundai Accent's rear suspension uses a coil-spring-over-shock design that is commonly called a rear strut. The OEM part number prefix 55360 identifies the right-hand rear shock absorber/damper on many Accent models; the complete number must include the model-specific suffix, such as 55360-1R000 for many 2012-2017 Accent (RB) applications. The matching left-hand unit is usually 55330-1R000. Always confirm with your VIN because older Accent models may use different suffixes. Replacing the rear shock/strut: raise the rear and support the axle or trailing arm; remove the lower mounting bolt and the upper trunk-area nuts; compress the spring only if you are disassembling the spring seat and bump stop; never use the shock absorber to hold the car's weight. If replacing only the damper, install the upper mount, hand-start the lower bolt, lower the suspension to curb height, tighten the lower bolt to approximately 90-100 Nm (66-74 lb-ft), and tighten the upper nuts to 34-45 Nm (25-33 lb-ft). Torque values are typical shop/repair-manual values, not a substitute for the exact Hyundai service manual. Hyundai does not specify a calendar replacement interval for shock absorbers; inspect at about 30,000 miles or when you see fluid leakage, broken mounts, uneven tire wear, or excessive bounce. Always replace shock absorbers in axle pairs. For 2026 sourcing, verify suppliers are currently certified to IATF 16949 and that corrosion-resistance validation includes accelerated salt-spray testing such as ASTM B117; check for e-coat, powder coat, and a smooth rod surface before installation.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
