Your Suzuki DL1000 / V-Strom 1000 runs on fuel injection, and the ECU has to know exactly how far the throttle butterflies are open — every millisecond, at every throttle position. That signal comes from the throttle position sensor (TPS) mounted on the throttle body. When the sensing track inside the TPS wears out, dries out or takes on moisture, the ECU receives a wrong reading and the engine starts to behave badly: hunting idle, surging at small throttle openings, hesitation, poor fuel economy and sometimes an FI warning light on the dash. This replacement sensor — OEM cross-reference 13580-02F01 — is listed for Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom 1000 models from 2002 to 2012. Swapping it is one of the cheapest ways to restore clean fuelling and predictable throttle response.
At a glance
The throttle position sensor is a rotary sensor driven by the throttle shaft. It converts the angle of the throttle valve into an electrical signal that the ECU uses for two things: calculating the fuel quantity injected and calculating ignition timing. On a big V-twin like the DL1000's 996 cc engine, that signal matters most in the small-throttle-opening range — town riding, cruising and corner exits — which is also exactly where a tired sensor shows itself first.
Because the TPS is a wear item that works continuously through every ride, the internal contact track eventually loses its accuracy. A sensor that is only slightly out of spec can make a healthy engine feel like it has a fuelling fault, and no amount of injector cleaner will fix it. Replacing it is a straightforward bolt-on job for a home mechanic with basic tools.

Fitment is stated against the OEM cross-reference number. Before ordering, compare the part number stamped or printed on your original sensor with 13580-02F01, and check the connector shape and mounting holes against the photos in this listing. Year ranges are a guide — model-year breaks and regional variants can differ.
Owners of injected Suzukis usually describe one or more of the following before the sensor is diagnosed:
Note: these symptoms overlap with other EFI faults — throttle body synchronisation, air leaks, clogged injectors, a tired spark plug or a faulty coolant/intake sensor. Have the fault code read before you replace parts; the sensor that matches your fault code is the one to change.
Fitting is within the reach of a home mechanic. If you are not comfortable adjusting the sensor position or reading live data, have a workshop do the calibration step.

Will this sensor fit my 2002–2012 DL1000 V-Strom 1000?
It is listed for Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom 1000 models built between 2002 and 2012, with OEM cross-reference 13580-02F01. The safest check is to remove your old sensor and match the number on it, then compare the connector and mounting pattern with the product photos.
Do I have to adjust the TPS after installation?
On most injected Suzukis the sensor position is set during installation and the procedure is described in the model's official service manual. Use the manufacturer's method and values for your bike — do not copy settings from another model or from an internet post.
Can a bad TPS cause a rough idle and poor fuel economy?
Yes. A worn TPS sends the ECU an inaccurate throttle-angle signal, which affects both injected fuel quantity and ignition timing — typically showing up as an unstable idle, surging at small throttle openings and higher fuel consumption. Have the fault code read first to confirm the diagnosis.
