Hyundai Accent Front Strut Assembly: Selection and Installation Guide

by flippancy 18 Aug 2026
The front strut assembly on the 2006-2011 Hyundai Accent (MC platform) is a complete suspension unit that consists of a shock cartridge, coil spring, upper mount, bearing, dust boot, and often a new jounce bumper. These are commonly sold as loaded struts, meaning the spring and mount are already assembled, which makes DIY installation easier and safer because you do not need a spring compressor. When selecting a replacement strut, confirm the exact model year and options. The Accent used different calibration for front suspension depending on the engine, trim level, and whether the car has ABS. Some aftermarket loaded strut assemblies include the ABS wheel speed sensor bracket, and some are supplied without the sensor; keep the original sensor or transfer it carefully. A few common OEM part numbers are 54660-1E000, 54660-1E100, and 54660-1E200, but the exact number depends on the original equipment and production date. Always compare the old strut's mounting pattern and spring seat before installing. The same front strut design is shared with certain Kia Rio models from the same era, but you should not rely on that alone because spring rates and damping can differ. A strut made for a Rio may look identical but can change ride height or handling on an Accent. If you want to keep stock ride height, choose a loaded strut that is labeled for the Accent or explicitly cross-references the correct Hyundai part number.Aftermarket quality varies. Look for parts from manufacturers that use IATF 16949 quality management and provide corrosion-resistant coatings on the strut body and mounting hardware. During installation, clean the strut-to-knuckle surfaces, replace any deformed or corroded bolts, and use a thread-locker where the factory service manual requires it. Torque specifications must be taken from the factory manual for your exact model; never hit the strut piston rod with a hammer, and use a proper strut socket to hold the rod while tightening the top nut. After installation, the front suspension must be aligned because replacing struts affects camber, caster, and toe. If the wheel speed sensor harness was disconnected, inspect the wiring and connector for damage before road testing. ABS or traction control warning lights can occur if the sensor gap is wrong, the harness is routed incorrectly, or the wiring is pinched. Common related DTCs include C0035, C0040, and other wheel speed circuit codes, but they simply mean the ABS is not receiving a clean signal from that wheel.A worn strut mount bearing often makes a clunk or pop when turning the steering wheel while stopped or at low speed. If you are replacing the strut, inspect the upper mount bearing and replace it if it feels notchy, gritty, or loose. A loaded strut assembly normally includes a new mount and bearing, which saves labor and reduces the chance of having to repeat the job. After the repair, perform a careful test drive on smooth and bumpy roads, listen for suspension noise, and have the alignment checked at a shop that can set the front toe to factory specification.

What is Lorem Ipsum? Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum. Why do we use it? It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
