A tow hook cover is the small plastic cap that hides the tow point behind your bumper. On the 2020-2021 Corolla LE and XLE, that cap is Toyota part 52128-12320, and it sits low in the front bumper skin.

Lose it and you lose more than a trim panel. Water, road salt, and grit collect in the opening, the tow bracket starts to corrode, and a rescue driver has nowhere clean to hook a strap.

Two different covers circulate for this generation of Corolla, and interchange charts mix the numbers. They are not the same piece. The price gap is about the face of the part, not the quality.

• 52128-12320 is the plain flush cap. It reads as one smooth black panel in the bumper. This is the $20.95 part.
• 53128-12050 is the molding trim cover. A textured strip runs across the face, so it reads as part of the bumper line. This is the $49.26 part.

Look at your bumper before you order the replacement cover. A small smooth opening takes the 52128 cap. An opening with a strip across it takes the molding trim cover for the 2020-2021 Corolla LE/XLE instead.

There is a zero-cost check if the old cap is still in place. Pry it out and read the number on its back face, then order that number.

Why SE and XSE owners should stop here

The 2020-2021 Corolla SE and XSE wear a sportier front fascia. On those cars the tow point sits behind the grille, and its cover is a different shape entirely.

A 52128-12320 cap will not click into an SE/XSE bumper, and it will not sit flush against a grille surround. Read the trim badge, not just the model year, before you order anything.

How the clip-in install goes

No bumper removal, no screws, no paint. The job is one clip release and one press-fit. Cold, brittle plastic is the only real enemy.

1. Park in a warm spot or work right after a drive, so the clips are not brittle.
2. Use a plastic trim pry tool, or wrap a flathead screwdriver in tape to protect the paint.
3. Slide the tool under the edge of the old cap and lift with steady pressure until the tabs release.
4. Brush sand and salt residue out of the opening and wipe the slot edges dry.
5. Line the new cap's tabs up with the slots and press the center until every clip clicks.
6. Push each corner once to check the cap sits flush with the bumper skin.

Owners report the whole swap takes about five minutes. If the cap resists halfway, stop and check that you are not prying against a painted edge.

Three ways buyers end up with the wrong cap

• Year only. The 2022+ Corolla wears a facelifted bumper, and the 2020-2021 cap does not flush with it.
• Model only. LE and XLE share this cap, SE and XSE do not. A 2021 XLE and a 2021 XSE are different cars at the bumper.
• Used caps. Salvage caps arrive sun-faded gray next to black plastic, and their tabs are already stressed from the first removal.
